Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Q: What areas do you service?

A: We service Australia-wide (and sometimes overseas!). Get in contact to discuss details.

Q: What are your hours of operation?

A: Our hours of operation are approximately from 7am – 3:00pm, subject to working tidal work. We are also subject to the local council guidelines.

Q: How much will my project cost?

A: Cost will vary according to each project, due to conditions onsite. As a result we do not charge on a square metre rate. Stone and materials must be paid for before the stone is cut, and before building material are delivered to the site. A deposit is required before we start, and the full cost is to be paid within 7 day of the completion of the job.

We also charge waste removal fees, which will vary depending on whether a barge is required.

Q: What is the cost for a site inspection and quote?

A: All our inspections and quotations are free. However, where required, divers' reports will incur a cost and are very helpful to us getting our quotes to the most competitive price.

Q: How long will the site inspection take?

A: All site inspections varies from 30 mins for a small project up to 1.5 hrs for a larger project.

Q: Do you do residential or commercial work?

A: Our company will take on any and all residential, commercial and government projects.

Q: Will the excavation damage my property?

A: Excavation can damage the lawn within the working area.

Q: What permits and approvals do I need?

A: It depends on the project - some projects will need council and/or Roads and Marine Services permit.

Q:What happens in wet weather?

A: As long as we can work safely, we will work in all weather conditions.

Q:Do you work on weekends and public holidays? What extra charges will be incurred?

A:We do not normally work weekends or on public holidays, but exceptions are made if we are under time restrictions and contractors must work during those times.

Q:Can you help with paving and retaining walls?

A:Yes! We deal with all aspects of pavng and stone retaining walls

Q:What is "subsidence"?

A:Subsidence which is caused by holes at the back of the seawall, due to missing stones missing or failing mortar. To repair:

  • We first seal the wall from the outside;
  • We excavate down to the base of the wall and lay down Geo Tech and then back-fill the wall with drainage gravel;
  • We cover with soil mix 200 mm thick;
  • We then lay down turf or pavement.

Q: Our seawall has developed cracks, holes have appeared (stones have fallen out), subsidence (ground sinking) and the render has fallen out.

A: Implementing preventative measures for your seawall is a very important and cost-effective way of prolonging the life of your wall. If left untouched it will eventually cost tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of dollars. We have seen on numerous occasions where clients leave it until their wall collapsed. And in a lot of cases, parts of adjoining property walls have been brought down, costing even more money.

Q: What causes 'grass burn' (where the grass directly behind the wall won't grow)?

A: This is a good indication that the wall is not high enough and needs to be built up.

Q: Why are my stones disintegrating?

A: Stones disintegrate (weather) due to the harsh environment. Sandstone that has been used to build the seawall is of poor quality. This is why we use our marine-grade sandstone.

Q: Why do we have sinkholes in our lawn and pavement behind the seawall?

A: This is a maintenance issue which can be prevented by re-pointing your whole seawall from top to bottom - down to the seabed.
